HitoKey

Help & support

Help with HitoKey’s iPhone authenticator. Email support@hito.ai. Include the app version shown in About HitoKey and a description of the problem.

Add or import tokens

Tap + on Tokens. Choose Scan QR code, Enter key or link, or Import tokens. Obtain setup material from the service whose account you are protecting. Review the accounts before saving. The Hito menu at the upper left opens Settings, Help, and About.

For Google Authenticator, select its import option and follow the on-screen consent and broadcast instructions, then open Google Authenticator’s export QR codes. Return to HitoKey to review and save. Cancel if unrelated sensitive content appears. HitoKey processes the frames locally and does not record audio.

Find a token

Use search, switch between Title and Recent, or choose a site or app. The title and actions hide while you scroll toward later tokens. Scroll back toward earlier tokens to reveal them. Search remains visible while it contains text or you are typing.

Back up before changing phones

Open the cloud button or Settings → Backup and recovery. Enable optional iCloud backup or export an encrypted file. Keep the matching recovery phrase separately from a file backup. An export only confirms that the file was produced; verify it reached your intended storage destination.

A current upload confirms backup freshness. Use the recovery check on another iPhone to verify access to both the iCloud copy and its key. Do this before relying on recovery.

Restore on a replacement iPhone

For iCloud, use the same Apple Account, enable iCloud Keychain, and finish Apple’s Keychain recovery. Open Backup and recovery → Restore from iCloud in an empty authenticator. No HitoKey recovery phrase is needed for this method, but signing in to Apple alone may not recover the encryption key.

For an encrypted file, restore the matching HitoKey recovery phrase first, then import the file into an empty authenticator. Both are required. Do not erase a populated installation just to test a backup.

If iCloud or its key is unavailable, finish Apple’s account and Keychain recovery, check connectivity and storage, and try again. If you have neither a usable backup nor recovery material, use each service’s own account-recovery process. Hito support cannot bypass encryption.

Remove data

Deleting a token leaves a recoverable History entry until you clear History. Turning off iCloud backup keeps the last cloud copy. Manage cloud storage in Apple’s iCloud settings, and remove exported files from their chosen destinations separately. See the privacy policy for details.

Contact safely

Never email recovery words, setup keys, QR codes, backup files, or one-time codes. If you share a screenshot, hide all codes and account details first. Support does not need your secrets.
